YAKIMA — A Yakima man has been sentenced in U.S. District Court to more than 24 years in prison for distributing methamphetamine and conspiring to manufacture the drug.
Jose Luis Manzo, 32, was long the subject of an investigation into the Manzo drug-trafficking organization, a large-scale distributor of meth in the Yakima area headed by Manzo’s brother, Jesus Manzo, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said in a news release Friday.
Jesus Manzo is scheduled to be sentenced next month for distribution of methamphetamine, the office said.
In February 2007, Jose Manzo delivered a half-pound of methamphetamine to a federal Drug Enforcement Agency informant in a parking lot in West Valley, the release said.
In April 2007, he organized an attempt to purchase 86 cases of pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient in the manufacture of methamphetamine, in an Oregon hotel room. That’s enough to produce anywhere from 80 to 140 pounds of the drug, authorities said.
Drug agents raided the hotel room, finding Manzo and others inside. They also found $301,110 in currency.
At that time, Manzo was under federal court supervision for attempting to smuggle more than $140,000 into Canada near Blaine, Wash., authorities said.
