YAKIMA — Five men were to be charged Friday in Yakima County Superior Court on drug trafficking charges stemming from a bust earlier this week in the Sunnyside area.
The men were arrested on suspicion of manufacturing marijuana.
The case stems from a tip that detectives with the Law Enforcement Against Drugs task force got about a possible marijuana operation on Sheller Road.
According to an arrest affidavit, detectives on Wednesday made a stop in the 6000 block and encountered a group of men standing by a trailer.
When the detectives approached, three of the men began walking away. A chase ensued after the men didn’t comply with the detectives’ request to return.
Detectives reported they noticed a strong smell of marijuana and found 1,000 marijuana plants concealed in overgrown weeds near the trailer.
They later found several pounds of harvested marijuana buds laid out to dry in another trailer in the area, according to the affidavit.
The five men were apprehended and booked on Wednesday. The home towns of the suspects were not released.
