YAKIMA -- Clark College of Vancouver swept Yakima Valley's young volleyball squad in the Yaks' home opener Wednesday at Sherar Gym.
After beating Big Bend earlier in the afternoon, Clark topped Yakima Valley 25-17, 25-20, 25-17.
Kinsey Doering, a freshman setter from Colfax, had 18 assists and Roweena Yamat, YVCC's lone sophomore, collected 11 digs.
The Yaks host Linn-Benton today at 4 p.m.
BASEBALL
Rebels tie for 3rd at tournament
The Yakima U12 Rebels tied for third in the King Oscar Labor Day baseball tournament in Lacey last weekend.
In the third-place game, the Rebels rallied from a 5-1 deficit to tie the Bulldog Baseball Club 5-5 before the game was called by tournament directors.
Earlier, the Rebels beat the Puget Sound Pilots 10-1 in the quarterfinals, and then lost to the top-seeded Puyallup Cardinals 5-0 in the semifinals.
Team members were Gavin Rodriguez, Matthew Suarez, Kurt Calhoun, Kevin Smith, Koleman Johns, Hunter Vance, Logan Swain, Zach Walker, Elias Moctezuma, Jacob Mortensen and Jeffre McVey. The team is coached by Robert Suarez, Ken Mortensen, Jeff Walker and Harold Hutchinson.
