PASCO -- They may have had a season to forget, but the Yakima Bears sure enjoyed a memorable finish.
Starter Ryan Cook opened with four hitless innings and Brendan Duffy turned in his best effort of the summer as the Bears rolled to a 6-2 victory over the Dust Devils in their Northwest League finale Wednesday night.
Cook worked six stellar innings to beat the Dust Devils for the second time in a week, and Duffy was 3-for-4 with two runs, an RBI and three stolen bases to help Yakima finish a 28-48 season on a bright note.
Duffy accounted for three of Yakima's seven hits and combined with Justin Parker to scorch Tri-City for five stolen bases.
The Bears closed with a rush, taking four of six from Tri-City in their season-ending series. Yakima was 10-11 over the final 21 games.
After three scoreless innings, Yakima broke through first with a two-out run in the fourth inning. Duffy walked, stole back-to-back bases and scored when Anthony Smith's grounder was mishandled by the first baseman.
The Bears struck again in the fifth and did most of their damage with a four-run uprising. The big hits were two-out RBI singles by Duffy and Alfredo Marte, the latter extending the margin to 5-0.
In the sixth, Tri-City had no better luck keeping Yakima baserunners pinned down. Parker struck out swinging but reached base on a wild pitch, duplicated Duffy's effort by stealing second and third and then scored on Jhoan Pimentel's single -- yet another clutch hit with two outs.
Cook worked out of a tough spot in the first when he issued one of his two walks and Yakima's defense committed both of its errors. But with runners on second and third, Cook struck out Patrick Rose swinging to end the threat.
Cook then retired Tri-City batters in order in the second, third and fourth. The first hit he allowed was a leadoff home run in the fifth by Scott Robinson.
It was the second time in a week that Cook (2-2) shut Tri-City down. On Aug. 29, also in Pasco, he pitched six innings and allowed just one earned run in a 4-3 victory.
