Those flooding OIC's phone lines for help in paying heating costs this winter are being advised to call back later when funding becomes available.
A Sunday story in the Yakima Herald-Republic about rising heating costs indicated aid through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance program would be available.
While the state is expected to distribute about $1.6 million in aid to local agencies in Yakima County, such as OIC and the Northwest Community Action Center, those agencies don't yet have the funding. As a result, they are not yet taking applications for help.
Officials from OIC and the Northwest Community Action Center said it's unclear when funding will become available, but that they will provide notice when the application period opens.
