YAKIMA -- Kathleen Ross, president of Heritage University, is not just a local mover and shaker.
This evening she is being honored with a Women of Influence award in Seattle.
For the past five years, the Puget Sound Business Journal has given the awards, shining the spotlight on local businesswomen, community leaders and philanthropists who are a force in the Puget Sound area.
Ross is one of 16 recipients of this year’s award.
The journal believes that Ross’ educational vision has affected people well beyond the Yakima Valley. She has headed up the Toppenish university, with a current enrollment of more than 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students, since its inception in 1982.
The award ceremony, which is sold out, begins with a dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the Fairmont Olympic Hotel in Seattle.
“We’re very proud of her,” said Brendan Monahan, a Yakima attorney and member of the Heritage University board of directors, who is attending the event.
